Tropical Medicine Students

Academic Resources at Tulane | Recreation and Leisure | Computing

The Department of Tropical Medicine offers several opportunities for students to become involved in the department. These possibilities include academic, social and service activities within the Department and within the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. Each offers you the chance to get to know faculty and other students better and to enhance your experience at Tulane. We hope that you will schedule time to get assimilated into the department.

Departmental Seminars

The Tropical Medicine Department regularly invites professional scientists and tropical medicine experts to speak to faculty and students. As a student, you are especially welcome to attend these seminars. Check the departmental website calendar of events for seminar (and other) announcements.

Student Presentations

Each semester, students participating in seminar courses present at least one oral presentation on an article selected from the current scientific literature. Attendance and participation in either the parasitology or tropical medicine seminars are expected of all departmental students. Others are welcome to attend. Faculty or guest lecturers may also give seminar presentations. These seminars benefit students and faculty alike by providing an opportunity to discuss current topics relating to all aspects of tropical medicine and infectious diseases.

Capstone Opportunities

There are Capstone opportunities available within the Department and with local, national and international agencies. Please contact your advisor for more information.
